Wow!
Nice work Lora.
Did you key all of that in??
I suppose that Bedford Township at that time included the part south of the borough as well as Dutch Corner.
That list will require some analysis.

Yep, I typed it in. I did find that there were quite a few surnames that weren't spelled as we spell them now (Reighart = Reighard, Sellars = Sellers, Zimmer = Zimmers, etc.), but I spelled them as they were on the census.

Here's the breakdown of occupations:
Farmer 204
Laborer 119
Carpenter 16
Shoemaker 15
Smith 15
Blacksmith 9
Miller 9
Wagon maker 6
Cooper 5
Clerk 3
Teacher 3
Brick maker 2
Butcher 2
Coach maker 2
Innkeeper 2
Manufacturer 2
Millwright 2
Moulder 2
Stone mason 2
Tanner 2
Attorney 1
Barber 1
Cabinet maker 1
Collector 1
Confectioner 1
Constable 1
Driver 1
Gunsmith 1
Justice of the Peace 1
Machinist 1
Methodist Minister 1
Pattern maker 1
Pedler 1
Potter 1
Saddler 1
Steward of Poor House 1
Tailor 1
To__sonist 1
Upholsterer 1

Average Age: 34.64

The one that I wrote "To_sonist", I have no idea what that could be. I'll have to look and see if I can find a website that lists old occupations and see wha it may be.

Lora,
You are really bustin' a__ on this.
I can't keep up.
On a different subject, as I think you will see tomorrow, we will probably soon have other input into this forum.

In the 1860 census, Jacob Crouse, which was the one that I couldn't read in the 1850 census, had is occupation listed as "farmer". Our best guess for the above occupations, was Tappiologist. And that's just totally a guess.

Here's a website with a list of occupations:
