Post subject:  Boundaries of Chalybeate

I have several relatives that, according to some sources on the Internet, were born in Chalybeate. I, myself, grew up right next to the old Chalybeate Swimming Pool and Bowling Alley. On another page on this site, Chalybeate is mentioned as a location in Dutch Corner. Does anyone know the rough boundaries of what is called Chalybeate?

On the 1877 Landowner Map of Bedford County (http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/mg/di/m011/PDFs/m011Map0793_BedfordTwp.pdf), if you look at District 4, that is where the Moore School/Chalybeate School was located. The issue is the same as with Dutch Corner....different people have different ideas of where the boundaries are. For example, for the Western boundary of what we consider Dutch Corner, we use old route 220 (aka business 220), but other people use the creek. Some other people only think that Dutch Corner is back by the Dibert Farm, and that's it.

Another example of this is if you look at the old Bedford Gazette newspapers. Back when they had the area news (seperated by locations such as Imlertown, Cessna, Pleasant Valley, Chalybeateville, etc), I know of one person who didn't move, who once was mentioned as living in Pleasant Valley, then Chalybeateville (aka Chalybeate). But, the map referenced above should give you a starting point, anyway.

Good luck with your research!
